New Front Door Handleset and Deadbolt Install in Golden Valley MN
We got a call last week from a homeowner near Brookview Park in Golden Valley who wanted a locksmith to replace their old front entry hardware. The door had one of those classic brass oval knobs with a worn backplate, and the lock barely turned anymore. You can see in the before photos how tired the old setup looked, with a paper towel stuffed in the gap just to block the cold air.
Older homes around the Highway 55 and Highway 100 corner often still have antique mortise style hardware. It looks charming, but the parts wears down over time and matching keys get hard to find. For this job our locksmith removed the old brass knob, bored the door for a modern lock, and put in a new Schlage handleset with a matching deadbolt. The owner picked a Schlage Camelot grip with a Accent lever on the inside, in a clean matte black and oil rubbed bronze finish.

A lot of people ask us if they can just drop a new lock onto a old mortise door without any drilling. Sometimes yes, but most modern handlesets need a standard bore hole, so we drill it clean and line it all up so the deadbolt throws smooth into the frame. Done right, the door locks tight and feels solid for many years.
